Water Map

October 29, 2009

I was inspired by my weekend at Monterrey Bay and the way we think about or sometimes forget about the importance of water.
My POV for this project is a person who wants to be more conscience of their water use.
So  I began thinking of a way to create a map that showed a timescale, used [...]

Project 2: Mapping Music Affinities

October 22, 2009

I decided to work from one of the prompts given on Monday class, the idea of mapping music affinities.  From there I started thinking  and talking about iPods and iPod users with people.  I discovered that there is a big difference in the type of iPod users, for instance, some meticulously chooses their songs and [...]

Project 3- Culture Map by Timing Video

October 19, 2009

Challenge: Design a cultural map using time scales and video
Manipulate variables of a d.Maps function to guide you:
Track(s) + Time Scales + Video = Cultural Maps Expression

For example, I can build on the track of music and saturate myself with live music. While gaining empathy through interviews and observations, I eventually define the following POV:

Sound Diaspora

October 15, 2009

The inspiration for my POV came from finding an ultrasound picture on the floor of my stats lecture.  From there it became clear that I wanted to make some sort of map that would log those findings.  Only by talking to more people about why they liked finding random objects did I learn two important [...]

October 10, 2009

My POV:
Stacey arrived at college intent on keeping her sleeping pattern as close to the way it was at home as possible.  Three months in, however, she realizes she’s completely lost her inner clock, and is staying up all hours of the night.  She would like to figure out how that happened, and ways she [...]

Lab 3 Recap

October 9, 2009

Last night started with brief check-ins about non work related activities. It’s great to hear tidbits about the lives of fellow students that I would otherwise not know about.
To warm up I showed a couple private prototypes, one I made for Project 1 and the other as an example for Project 2 by Zeen Labs.
Next, [...]

Discussion 3 Recap

October 6, 2009

Last night was a small turnout, maybe swine flu is spreading despite the quarantine on campus. I’ve been struggling with some type of flu as well…
First off, more questions were voiced about Project 1 and the use of the term “tracks” in our function:
Track(s) + Dimension(s) + Media = Cultural Maps Expression
When someone says “tracks,” [...]
